snow in dc area
When it snows in D.C./Northern Virginia people tend to freak out about snow even if its only about 3 inches or so. Today we're suppose to get about 3-5 inches and they've already closed all the schools for the day but the snow isn't even sticking to the ground yet. Its a bit too warm right now (a little above 32 degree F) but it is suppose to get colder later in the day. If this was the northeast, people wouldn't even blink at this snow storm...at least schools would definitely not be closed. There's not even ice on the roads yet...
UPDATE: The Federal Government has closed due to the inclement weather...forcast still says we are getting about 1-3 inches. The roads are a little worse but really not that bad.

in all 13 years of my k-12 experience in massachusetts, i remember there was only one day that the lexington school head honchos cancelled school on a day the snow didn't even stick. so i had maybe one school day off where there was no snow on the ground at all -- it was eerie. though that was the same year that had school when there was 1 in of snow on the ground in the morning, then when we were leaving school there was one foot on the ground. whoops. so i guess they were making up for that mistake. ;-)
